I am not a pilot. I have always wanted to be a pilot, but like so many other people, I have neither the time or money to fulfill this dream. FSX appears to be able to the closest that one can get to real flying, though there might be other simulators our there that provide even a better experience. I use a Saitek X-52 control stick in conjunction with the Saitek Rudder Pedals. The entire package works flawlessly and provides a pleasant, satisfying experience.

I do recommend the rudder pedals as it makes taxiing an airplane on the runway much more manageable compared to a twist rudder on the control stick. I have owned previous versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator and this definitely ranks as an upgrade in terms of graphics and adding missions (though I really don't care about the missions). Landscapes in. My system: It ain't the latest-greatest 'Duo' or 'Quad' super fast hell on wheels box. In fact it's a Dell Optiplex GX270, 3.0Ghz Hyperthreaded P4.

RAM is 2GB, video is ATI Radeon 9550 (Dual capable) w 256Mb DDR. Sound is Creative Audigy4, MS Sidewinder Precision Pro flight stick (USB driven)I just received my copy of FSX-Deluxe + Accelerator Pack. They installed flawlessly in under 30 minutes, total. Just got through 'test flying' it.

I just selected 'free flight', Cessna 172, and I selected my local small air field, which should be located just to the east of Nashville, TN. Cornelia Fort air park. Got flying, quickly located Berry International just where it should be. Went looking for Nashville's skyline - hmmm, kind of generic looking.

I'm not picky about that type of detail anyway. That said, the graphics and dynamic graphic details were none the less. For aviation enthusiasts, FSX is a blast. Steam, not so much.

A big part of your FSX experience will be depend on your pc and gpu performance as well as your control set-up. That said, FSX can offer a fun and educational simulated flying experience. I am a pilot and have been using MS flight software from the first edition. My negative opinion on the Steam edition had to with download and configuration issues. The problems were resolved, but the support is very limited and you have to track down answers on your own.

It was a frustrating experience and am still not thrilled that it is dependent on this platform. Other than that, love the software. The SP2 Acceleration pack which loads automatically with this product causes visual anomalies in FSX (at least on my PC, which runs on 64 bit Windows 7.) Unfortunately Microsoft has already disbanded its FS support team so I'm not expecting any corrective patches to issue.2013 - update note. It may be that at least some of the visual anomalies are due to an interaction with 3rd party FSX software (Tileproxy) and with a couple of aircraft designed primarily for earlier versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator. Careful editing of the aircraft config gets around most of the problems.Bottom line - As SP2 is a necessary prerequisite for some of the more recent FSX add-ons, I'll live with the downside.

I used to own a Microsoft Flight Simulator a few years ago. This is is a later version. I enjoyed the game then and I enjoy it even more now. This game is so realistic.

I believe it is more fun than actually flying a plane. You can make mistakes and crash and get up and walk away. You can try things a real pilot cannot. The scenery is authentic. The airport at Kodiak, Alaska is exactly as I remember it. I flew out of there east to 'Seal Island', a smallish Rock island inhabited by Sea Lions, off Cape Chiniak.

I never expected to see it on a map. Microsoft's follow up to the European Theater's Combat Flight Simulator is a vast improvement.

While the game's look is quite different, the gameplay remains compelling. The 1940's comic book styled user interface is much more interesting to look at. The game is superlative in most categories. Beware.your PC needs the juice to run this game. If you can double the minimum req's, you'll be fine. The stock planes are too few (only 7)however there are many internet forums out there where a sim pilot can acquire a multitude of add-on aircraft and mods. These sources transform a really good flight sim to a hypnotic experience.

I really enjoy this edition better than CFS3. It is simply more fun. Why does Microsoft release a game with options that can't be selected with todays technology?I've flown this sim on several high-end (P4 2.4 to 3.2) computers, and nobody has been able to use the highest details simultaneously without the sim turning into a slide-show.Still, when you back off the detail settings, the sim can run smoothly. I like the idea of interaction with ATC, and having flown real aircraft for the past 14 years, the calls are close to accurate. This is one of those games/sims that you'll really appreciate sometime in the fall of 2004, when you've upgraded to the next faster machine.

For now, at playable settings, it won't look much different than what you've flown before. I've only logged about twenty hours so far, and barely scratch the surface of what this software is capable of. My only complaint is that it showed the inadequacies of my computer. I chose to upgrade my video card, power supply and memory to get better performance. I was able to run in the next to highest setting with my current gear but the graphics are so fantastic, I was willing to spend the money to get the best graphics at a decent frame rate.
